Fig, Port, and Star Anise Christmas Cake

Ingredient of the Month: Christmas Spices

There’s nothing quite like the scent of Christmas spices – cinnamon, cloves and ginger – wafting through the house to get you in the Christmas mood. Here are a few of our favourite recipes: all you need now is some tinsel and mistletoe! (*not for cooking!)

A clove-studded gammon is THE Christmas go-to dish: perfect for the Christmas lunch table and doing sterling duty as a cold cut on Boxing Day. This Hairy Bikers recipe for Traditional Honey Glazed Gammon ticks all the festive boxes!

This Fig, Port and Star Anise Christmas Cake from Fiona Cairns (main pic, above) is packed with festive spices and is a great alternative to the more traditional marzipan and icing cake. It also goes very well with a glass of port and a slice of Lancashire cheese.

As a great festive gift, why not try this Caramel Spread with Gingerbread Spices by Rachel Khoo? It can be tailored with whatever combination of festive spices you like.
